Get the Girl! Opening - The Social Opener, the Love/Hate Tease and False Time Constraint

Chapter 2
Opening with “The Social Opener”

Elegant. Simple, but well designed. This is the Mehow opening structure. When I first saw the videos of Mehow in action opening sets saying “woooooohooooo” I could not believe what my eyes were watching and thought the guy was nuts. But then I realized how brilliant he is, and also honest in giving the right credits for pointing out that Tyler Durden from RSD was the first person in the pickup community to notice that such simple opener conveys being high-energy, positive and fun.

Another similarity with Tyler Durden is that Mehow also strongly recommends the reading of The Power of Now by Eckhart Tolle for becoming fully present, and not inside one’s own head and unable to enjoy the moment and be social.

Mehow knows his opening phase is elegant. In his words, it is the “easiest bar and club opening system on the planet”. Indeed, the lines are short and easy to remember. The delivery does not have much complexity – apart from the classic recommendations on paying attention to body language, eye contact and voice tone, he gives nice advice such as walking in a straight line and moving people and small objects in your way, thus conveying power.

Valuable advice is also provided on social dynamics, and Mehow commands that the loudest girl in the group being approached has to be the one to be teased, which communicates social savvy.

I like the opening in the Mehow model because the opener content is irrelevant. There is no need to use a complex opener which can only make things complicated. What is said in the opener becomes easily forgotten after some minutes of interaction and the important thing is to actually DO the opening. It is infinitely better to have a simple opener done than a complex opener never done. And here comes another point, on approach anxiety: not only the mentioned The Power of Now is recommended, but also the program Ultimate Inner Game by Hypnotica.

Negs v. the Love/Hate Tease

In contrast to Mystery Method’s negging, Mehow advocates the use of the Love/Hate Tease, combining IOIs with IODs. This way, one nice compliment is balanced with some nasty tease, making it a playful communication without the burden of “too much” being communicated. The IOI can be substituted by a touch (kino), to which Mehow calls the Kino Tease. This is a powerful move and in my experience is very important to be used in the first minutes of the interaction, setting the frame that you naturally a touchy feely person and will not cause strange feelings when later you escalate on touching in the next phases.

False time constraint

Finally, another important piece in the opening is the false time constraint, made popular by Style, which is simply telling you have to leave soon. This gives the necessary comfort to the set to stop thinking how long you will stay in the set.
