Joseph O’Connor may be familiar to you because of “Introducing NLP Neuro-Linguistic Programming – Psychological skills for understanding and influencing people”, co-authored with John Seymour.

“The NLP Workbook” instead is written only by O’Connor and was one of the books that Style (Neil Strauss) and his team recommended me when I was his student in the Stylelife Academy.

I am glad to have been in touch with this book, as the NLP bibliography has many books that are not so easy to read for the newbie. This one is a great start and here I have analysed the complete book under the perspective of seduction and relationships. Enjoy.

Introduction

What is NLP?

With a very clear introduction, O’Connor provides a nice perspective of what neuro-linguistic programming is about. Some people in the seduction community may associate NLP with the patterns made popular by Ross Jeffries in his Speed Seduction method. NLP is much more than throwing devious suggestions, it is about achieving results.

Continuing the introduction, O’Connor writes about six fundamental pillars of NLP. If I were to phrase them in one sentence, I’d say that you create your own destiny by understanding what you want and being flexible, socially smart and willing to notice your mistakes and correct them.

Understanding the pillars of NLP is very important in the introduction. Because of that I give a specific application of the neurolinguistic programming pillars into your love life. Who has never experienced one-itis (obsessively thinking of one particular girl) please raise your hand. Although generally the best answer to “how to get that special one girl” is “become good with all women, then you can go after that one”, the application of the pillars is used here as an illustrative example.

Next, 13 pressupositions of NLP are presented. From all these, I highlight the discussion on what is reality and the mental maps we create about it in our interpretation. This is a powerful concept that cannot be overlooked: this is not Matrix-type-philosophy or positive thinking “everything is gonna be fine, just ask to the Universe”.

To become convinced that this is not bullshit, this point is addressed even by an “original gangster” like Jeffy (Jlaix), who is famous for getting insanely crazy from karaokes to the most absurd places on earth addresses this point in his DVD1 (Steroids for the soul – Jeffy’s Inner Game Blitzkrieg) of “The Jeffy Show”. We choose how we react to reality – that’s why one guy chodes and another guy has glory, both in the same place, same time. They attach different meanings to what happens. The duality of reality and maps is one of the most important pressupositions to be understood.

Another important pressuposition: communication is not only what is in your head, what your intentions are. You must take into account the response you get from your message. This sounds obvious, but is often overlooked.
